Who hasn't heard of Twilight? Stephanie Meyer and the Twi-Hards?
The author recently sent pulses of fans a-quicking and into overdrive when she posted a mystery countdown on her website. This automatically rekindled and fueled speculation that the countdown is actually for the publication of "Midnight Sun", the long-anticipated companion novel to the Twilight Saga.
If you recall the five novels collectively called "The Twilight Saga" were published between 2005 and 2008 and tells the story of a teenager, Bella Swan, who falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen.
More than 100 million copies of the books have been sold around the world and were subsequently adapted into a successful movie franchise that launched the careers of actors, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson into the stratosphere by playing the leads, Bella and Edward.
It was in 2008 actually when Meyer indeed had plans to publish Midnight Sun, the story of Twilight told from the perspective of Edward. But she shelved plans of any future release when a copy of her manuscript got leaked, of which she said she felt betrayed and hurt.
Since then Twi-Hards, the name for Twilight fans, have never stopped speculating whether Meyer would recant on that promise and eventually release the finished version.
The countdown on her website was uploaded recently and equally tweeted by Fickle Fish Films, an independent production company that Stephanie Meyer co-founded and is focused on turning books into films. As it is a countdown, the numbers change as the days pass. The tweeted video began with "5 Days".
On Thursday, it tweeted again -- "4 days" -- prompting Twitter users to comment that they hoped the impending announcement was about "Midnight Sun."
Other fans, on the other hand, have speculated that since the video shows the sky and the stars, the release is actually a sequel to Meyer's science fiction novel, 'The Host", which was adapted into film in 2013 and stars Saoirse Ronan in the lead as Melanie, a woman who was captured after the human race was taken over by aliens calling themselves, "Souls". Her character shares the same body and fights control over it along with the alien inside her named, "Wanderer".
After The Host, Meyer shifted gears and released "The Chemist" in 2016 which is a thriller about a former secret agent on the run. The countdown itself also added speculation that the tweet could actually be about either a sequel to the book or a movie adaptation.
But whatever is going on, Twi-hards and fans will have to wait till Monday, May 4, to find out what the fuss is all about.
