Aquaman writer teases sequel details

Updated: Mar 28, 2020

It doesn't take an Atlantean to "wet" our appetite.

But it does when someone in the know is giving us insider info on the next Aquaman movie.

That's what happened recently when Aquaman writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick teased what's to come in the DC film's eagerly anticipated sequel.

In a recent Fan Q&A over Twitter, David was asked what direction can fans look forward to in the next installment of the Aquaman film series.

He answered that they were not taking one particular comic book story and adapting it into a film. It's not as clear cut as that. He told the fan that in order to get the vibe of what they are going for, he advised him to pick up and read any Silver Age story that featured Black Manta. While that gave fans an idea of where they would want the focus of the next film to go, it didn't tie him down to a specific storyline, thus not violating any non-disclosure agreement as no plot details were actually divulged.

Naturally, this is something that the DCEU should be doing as the iconic villain and his whereabouts following his defeat in the first film was teased in the after credit scene. Yaya-Abdul Mateen II who portrayed the character of David Kane, aka. Black Manta was a hit among fans and both David and director James Wan are in agreement that Manta deserves more exposure and that they plan on doing just that by fleshing out an origin story and show viewers how David Kane became to embody the villainous foil to Arthur Curry, aka. Aquaman.

In addition to that James and David are also hard at work at The Trench, a planned Aquaman-spinoff, involving the creatures that we saw in the first film. And if that sequence was anything to go by, you know that James Wan brought his Horror A-game into the film and he would be perfect to helm the spin-off.

Aquaman 2 is currently scheduled for a December 16, 2022 release.
